Shop charged me $110 to test the voltage output at the alternator, something I already knew and told them about, then informed me that I had a bad
alternator, which I already knew and told them! I was informed that they could not repair it, and that I should just continue my trip running my house generator, and fix it when I got home, currently about 1500 more miles. I left, talked to several other RV/Diesel mechanics and was informed that running with the relay engaged, was a bad idea and would probably cause failure over time. When I finally had the alternator removed, the new mechanic said that was horrible advice as the alternator was drawing current causing a net discharge and could have failed catastrophically causing significant additional damage. Net is, I paid, what I consider, a LOT of money for really bad advice. I would NEVER use this shop again. |
