| Service Performed: | Our ONAN 7.5KW diesel generator quit working on a Wednesday on our way to the August Bristol NASCAR Races. The cause was the failure of the water pump V-belt. We drove our Class A into Gentec's facility to have the repairs completed there, as opposed to a service call at our campground. At that time Gentec was an ONAN Service facility that performed mobile generator repairs at large fixed generator facilities and on RVs at the various campgrounds around the Bristol Motor Speedway. | ||
| Evaluation of Service Performed: | They assigned two techs to do our repairs, where one would have been sufficient. This along with the fact that from the beginning they refused to accept the work as an ONAN warranty repair, following ONAN procedures, and demanded cash payment, should have been a Red Flag. Gentec assured us that they could get the needed parts delivered overnight however that never happened. By the time a second attempt at getting parts took place the parts would have arrive after the race weekend. Since this wasn't going to work for us the owner assured us that a locally purchased v-belt would work. One was obtained, installed and caused additional damage, in the form of a main bearing seal leak, rendering the generator totally unusable. We returned home abandoning our race weekend we so looked forward to attending. On top of this they overcharged us for what should have been the work performed, later confirmed by ONAN Corporate. Fortunately, we did not have that much cash on hand and we charged the bill, which later allowed us to dispute the charges. The end result was that ONAN Corporate interceded on our behalf, we got our generator fixed at another ONAN authorized facility, and Gentec is apparently no longer an authorized ONAN service facility. However, they may still be performing mobile RV generator service around Bristol Motor Speedway during race weekends. | ||
