  Date of Service:   8/27/2012
  Work Done on:   Pop-up Trailer
Service Performed:   Leaving Livingston campsite, trailer would not go down. RV Shack said 12V pop-up motor was out and they replaced it with motor from Carefree.
Replaced for $648. Upon pickup following repairs, did not show operation. Next week, took camper out. Would not go up. Returned to RV
Shack, who said breaker was out and they upgraded from 30 amp to 40 amp. Again, did not demonstrate operation. Still did not work.
Independent mechanic removed all parts, inspected and called both original manufacturer service manager and Carefree. Both said that motor
could not be purchased separately - entire lift assembly came as one part and entire motor and lift assembly had to be replaced when inoperable.
Also advised by manufacturer that parts were under warranty and should have had no charge. After three five-hour trips to RV Shack and nearly
$1000 in charges, hopefully pop-up is fixed. I do not believe RV Shack even performed the repairs they charged for initially, but only after
contacting manufacturer and repeated trips there. Never use these people!
Evaluation of Service Performed:   Work was only done when forced to do so after repeated trips to RV Shack. Consistently lied about work, i.e. upgrade of 30 to 40 amp entered on
two separate occasions. Even manufacturer said work was not completed properly.

  Work Done on:   Pop-up Trailer
Service Performed:   Repair to lift system
Evaluation of Service Performed:   Repair done was OK. It was the overcharge on the Goshen springs that frost me. Goshen will sell the push spring for about 32.00 per pair. This company charged me 193.00 for one spring. Now I don't mind someone making a fair profit but this is totally gouging someone. Will not return to this facility. Buyer Beware

  Service Provider Response:
The purpose of this website, it appears, is to also encourage discussion between the customer and business for
resolution. To this end, let us respond to your concern on parts cost:

We apologize that the work order did not include the details of the costs in addition to the spring, though we
did believe it was conveyed verbally, those details are that our technician had to replace a tube and cable (full assembly) and there was a portion of the costs of parts in shipping.

We understand that the lack of this printed information instigated the feeling of injustice and again, we apologize
for this and hope our explanation is helpful.

As an additional note, in the feedback left on the web, it lists parts as $193.00, however, on the work order it is listed $139.00, copy enclosed. We would appreciate you updating your entry on the website at your earliest convenience.

  Date of Service:   5/11/2009
Work Done on:   5th Wheel Trailer
Medium Duty Truck
  Service Performed:   vehicle inspections
Evaluation of Service Performed:   At 8:30 this (Monday) morning, I called The RV Shack located in Livingston. I inquired about obtaining a state inspection for our three vehicles---our class 6 truck, 5th wheel trailer and Honda scooter. The woman on the phone said that they could inspect the truck and the trailer but they no longer inspected motorcycles. I said, fine. Should I make an appointment for the truck and trailer? She said, No, we do inspections between 8:30 & 11:00AM, then from 1 to 3:30PM. I said, I'll swing by this morning. She reminded me that they would not be able to take me after 11AM because it would not allow time for lunch. I said, I'll be there before 11. Just as we pulled into their lot we glanced at the clock on Sue's cell phone and were relieved that it was 10:51AM. Sue quickly went into the receptionist (who I spoke to earlier) and said we were here for the inspection. Sue was informed that we were too late and would have to come back after 1PM. Sue gently mentioned that it was several minutes before 11, and that we had called and did as instructed. At that point the woman stood up, went toward the garage & yelled, It's 11 o'clock and this woman wants an inspection on her truck and trailer. A voice comes back, "Tell her I'll do the truck but not the trailer". He then came out to the main store and said, I ran out of stickers for the trailer. Sue said, but my husband called this morning and your receptionist said to bring it in. Well, she didn't know we were out of stickers.

Sue came back to the truck, told me what had transpired. We both went back and asked if he would be willing to perform the inspection and just give us a sticker later, after he got some. He said, No. That would be illegal and I won't do it. But I already closed up and brought the trailer here based on the information I was given a couple of hours ago.

The proprietor told me in a huff, you can forgive me or not---that's up to you. Now, I'll inspect the truck if that's what you want.

Please understand, at no time did Sue raise her voice or speak without respect. I, too, maintained my cool---we are truly easy-going, laid-back people--- but it clearly was not going to go our way.

Given that I was in a pinch for time, I agreed to have him inspect the truck. As I was waiting, I asked the receptionist if there was another place I could go to have the 5er inspected. No, we are the only folks who do trailer inspections in Livingston---everyone else lost their licenses to do them.

When we got back to Rainbows End, I stopped in the office, related my story to the charming woman behind the desk. She gave me a list of establishments who perform state inspections. The first one I called, Kwik Kar, told me to bring 5'er on in. So I guess they weren't the only folks who do trailer inspections in Livingston after all.
I'm posting our experience because I am surprised. I'm surprised by the tone. I'm surprised by the position. I'm surprised that a business, which obviously depends on Escapees, would take such a too-bad-that's-how-it-is attitude.

Up until today, I have found nothing but friendly, helpful, courteous and welcoming people in Livingston. Doesn't matter if it's the auto parts store, the grocery store, bank, etc.---they've all been great.

After I got off the phone with her, Sue went to the Dept. of Safety to take her written test to obtain her Class A drivers license. After passing that, she made an appointment to take the road test at 1:45 PM. We were caught by surprise thinking it would be at least a day between written and road tests, but we glanced at the clock, 9:50 AM, and felt we had enough time to make it back to the 5er, closer her up and head for The RV Shack to make it before 11 AM. Just as we pulled into their lot we glanced at the clock on Sues cell phone and were relieved that it was 10:51 AM. Sue quickly went into the receptionist (who I spoke to earlier) and said we were here for the inspection. NOTE: You cant take your driving test unless the vehicle has a valid inspection sticker.
